Increase your reach by asking others to share

In crowdfunding, the amount of funds you receive is largely dependent on the amount of people who see your fundraiser, so asking others to share through social media, by text or just when talking to them can make a huge difference. It's important to remember that friends, family and your network can help you reach your target by sharing your fundraiser. Also, those who've already donated or those who don’t have money to give right now can support you on your fundraising journey by sharing. If you consider that you have a close network of 10 people and most donations are going to come from people you know, without others helping you share, you’re limiting your potential donations at 10. However, if you kindly ask those 10 people to share with their friends and family, the number of people seeing your fundraiser multiplies and you become much more likely to reach your target as more people see your request. You can add a quick line at the end of your story, the end of updates and any posts you make - "Thanks for taking the time to read about my fundraiser. Even if you aren’t able to donate right now, I’d really appreciate if you took a moment to share my fundraiser with your friends and family." As long as the people you're asking to help have your fundraiser link, it will be very easy for them to share. Your fundraiser will have a "Share" button right above the "Donate now" button and when you click it, you'll see several quick and easy sharing options. The transaction fee covers the costs of credit and debit charges, safely delivering donations and helps us offer more ways to donate—through credit, debit, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay or Google Pay (for most fundraisers). This is the only fee deducted on GoFundMe to cover all your fundraising needs.

Donors have the option to leave a voluntary tip for GoFundMe. By leaving a tip, you’re helping us to do more good in the world and your generosity helps us provide a safe and secure experience for you and others in our community. You can leave a voluntary contribution if you want to or you can change the amount to 0. The GoFundMe organiser will not see whether or not their donors leave a voluntary contribution to GoFundMe. Instructions for how to edit the voluntary contribution amount are here. If you've made a voluntary contribution by mistake, you can request a refund.

November 10 2023 Updated There are currently 19 countries we can send funds to, and the person transferring the funds must meet the transfer requirements of that country. The location of a fundraiser is chosen during the fundraiser creation process and once published, cannot be changed. We're working to expand our services to more countries in the future but for now, your fundraiser must be created in one of the following countries: Australia Austria Belgium Canada Denmark Finland France Germany Ireland Italy Luxembourg Netherlands Norway Portugal Spain Sweden Switzerland United Kingdom United States

Plan ahead This may sound like an obvious first step, but it’s very important to plan out what you would like to say in your story. This is your chance to tell potential donors who you are, why you’re raising money and how the funds will be used. Take some time to gather your thoughts and even write a draft before you officially publish your fundraiser. You will also be able to add photos and videos to your story which can really make it stand out, so we recommend collecting any that you’d like to use. You can also use these templates on Canva to create a unique visual to include in your story! What to include Two to three paragraphs should give you enough space to share your thoughts. Important things to include are 1) who you are and what your need is, 2) some details about what happened or what will be happening, 3) how the funds will be spent or reach the person you’re raising money for, and 4) a thank you and share request. If you're raising money for others, share how you’re connected to the recipient. We know there are a wide range of reasons for why you may be starting a fundraiser – and with that can come many different emotions. Including emotion and telling people how you really feel about the situation you're in can help supporters relate to your cause, and your readers might appreciate the sincerity. Being personable and honest in your story can help readers feel connected to your cause and more inclined to donate.

September 10 2021 Updated Sharing your fundraiser with your social network is often the key to success on GoFundMe, because the more you share, the wider your fundraiser's audience will be. You might not know where to start, but we have some tips to make sharing on social media easy. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are the most commonly used platforms for sharing and they’re a great way to get the word out. Each platform has its own capabilities, such as posting a story or "going live". You should choose whichever option you feel most comfortable with, but the important thing is to make sure you speak from the heart and explain why you’re raising funds. How to share on social media Post on your Facebook timeline with your fundraiser link and a brief description Create a post on your Instagram and choose a compelling photo to accompany it Add to your Instagram story each week with an update on your fundraiser Post on Twitter with the link to your fundraiser and a call to action in your description Add your fundraiser link to the bio section on all social media platforms, which can be done in your social media account’s settings For all of the options listed above, make sure that you include something along the lines of "Please consider donating to my fundraiser and sharing with your friends and family". Connect your social media accounts After signing in to your GoFundMe, follow these steps to connect your social media accounts to make sharing even easier. Click your name in the top right-hand corner Select "Account Settings" from the drop-down menu Scroll to the "Connected Accounts" section Choose which accounts you’d like to connect, then click the "Connect" button Then you can share directly from your GoFundMe account, by clicking the "Share" icon on your GoFundMe dashboard (shown below). If you are having trouble connecting the account, make sure that you aren't blocking pop-ups in your browser, and that your social media account isn't already connected to another GoFundMe account.

Not everyone wants to use social media, and some people might prefer to be more personal in their sharing efforts. Regardless of how you decide to share, it's important to bear in mind that sharing once is not usually enough. Try to come up with a plan for when and where you want to share and determine how you want to keep up the momentum on your side of things.

Posting on Instagram is a great way to share your fundraiser link along with a photo. We recommend choosing personal images that are eye catching, but not too graphic or shocking to viewers. You can include multiple photos in a post and in a story, so don’t feel pressured to choose just one! We’ve also found that fundraisers with pictures of happy, smiling people tend to be more successful./p>

Only the organiser can edit the fundraiser. If you're the beneficiary or a team member and would like to make changes, please contact the organiser and ask them to do so from their account. How to edit your fundraiser: Select the fundraiser you want to edit Select "Edit". On a mobile device, "Edit" is at the bottom of the screen. Make any changes you’d like; click “Publish changes” In the “Edit” tab you can edit basic information such as title, goal amount, main image, and story. Click the “Settings” tab to change turn donations and comments on or off, or to delete the fundraiser. The “Team” tab will allow you to add or remove team members. EditFundraiserGIFFitted.gif Other account changes Personal information (display name, email or phone number), can be changed in the "Account settings" section of your account which can be accessed from the drop-down menu at the top of your account. If you need to change your bank details, you can go to the "Bank transfers" section of your dashboard.
